The annual Miami Book Fair took place this year from November 13-20. It is an annual two-day street fair and literary festival organized by Miami Dade College. The fair brings over 300 national and international authors exhibitors to a weeklong gathering and includes pavilions for translation, comics, children, and young adults.
In this online panel discussion, CaribbeanReads’ author Opal Palmer Adisa moderates a panel of authors discussing the topic “Writing Children, Writing Ourselves”. Juleus Ghunta, Janet Morrison, and Jean Hawthorn-DaCosta talk about the ways that experiences shape writing and about representation in their books. |

Juleus Ghunta, who was recently shortlisted for the 2022 Queen Mary Wasafiri New Writing Prize, reads from his latest book: Rohan Bullkin and the Shadows: A Story about ACEs and Hope, and talks about the links between adverse childhood experiences and how this affects children’s educational outcomes. He discusses how his book addresses adverse children’s experiences (ACEs) and how the community must pay attention to how children are being impacted by ACEs. |
